Angola: Update – Another activity organized by OMUNGA prevented from taking place
On 30 November 2011 an activity organised by the NGO OMUNGA in the context of the OKUPAPALA festival was prevented from taking place in the city of Catumbela, province of Benguela.
On 23 November, OMUNGA sent a letter to the local authorities informing them about an event scheduled to happen the following week. As no negative reply was received, the event went ahead as scheduled.
However, at around 9 pm on the date of the event, a Police Commander of Catumbela arrived at the event and requested documentation attesting official authorisation for it to take place.
Later on that night another Police Commander, from the city of Lobito, appeared along with police officers and turned off the energy generator before taking the key with him. Several OKUPAPALA events had been repeatedly disrupted in early November.
As OMUNGA had taken all steps in order to comply with local norms to undertake such an event, Front Line sees the police conduct as a further act of harassment.

Angola: Update - Outra atividade organizada pela OMUNGA impedido de tomar lugar
Em 30 de novembro de 2011 uma actividade organizada pela ONG OMUNGA no contexto do festival OKUPAPALA foi impedido de tomar lugar na cidade da Catumbela, província de Benguela.
Em 23 de Novembro, OMUNGA enviou uma carta às autoridades locais informando-os sobre um evento programado para acontecer na semana seguinte. Como não foi recebida resposta negativa, o evento seguiu em frente como planejado.
No entanto, por volta das 21:00, na data do evento, um comandante da Polícia da Catumbela chegou ao evento e solicitou a documentação que comprove autorização oficial para que possa ter lugar.
Mais tarde naquela noite outra Comandante da Polícia, da cidade de Lobito, apareceram junto com policiais e desligado o gerador de energia antes de tomar a chave com ele. Vários eventos OKUPAPALA tinha sido repetidamente interrompidas no início de novembro.
Como OMUNGA tinha tomado todas as medidas para cumprir com as normas locais para realizar um evento como esse, Front Line vê a conduta da polícia como um ato adicional de assédio.
